Favorite Saga Scenes

Hello everyone. It’s Monday, and that means it’s time to talk some Star Wars. Lately, I’ve been doing a list of my favorite characters from the saga, and now I want to start another list. This one will concern my favorite scene from each of the Star Wars movies. We will start at the chronological beginning of the saga, the Phantom Menace.

While the movie itself didn’t live up to the immense hype, there’s still some enjoyable things to find, as well as a favorite scene. There’s two contenders in my opinion for this honor. It’s between the podrace on Tatooine and the final duel at the end of the film. Both have since been regarded as some of the best things about the prequel trilogy. And despite my love of a good lightsaber duel, I have to go with the podracing scene in a narrow contest.

This isn’t an easy choice, and I know young Anakin gets a lot of flak. He’s pretty cheesy even in this scene, but I believe this scene embodies best what the George Lucas era was all about. Lucas constantly wanted to push the boundaries with his special effects. He wanted to do new, innovative things that kept the audience interested. The podracing scene, far more than the duel, does this and does it effectively. It’s a hell of a fun scene, and it shows us how adept Anakin is as a pilot at such a young age. It also provided a great level in the Lego Star Wars game, so there’s that.

Anyway, those are my thoughts on my favorite scene for the Phantom Menace. Let me know if you guys agree or disagree, and I’ll talk to you all next week with my favorite scene from Attack of the Clones. Until then….
